Do I need an I/O controller?

Hello All,

I have a 7206vxr with NPE-G1.

I want to add a port adapter (PA-2FE). I don't have an I/O contoller in the configuration.

Do I need to install an I/O controller first?

No, you don't need I/O controller with NPE-G1 and NPE-G2. That's one of their advertised advantages - you have one more free slot in your router, where you can install special 'jacket-card' to host extra port adapters.

Both NPE-G1 and -G2 have on-board 10/100/1000 RJ-45 and SFP gigabit ports and G2 also has one extra FE port.
