DSL maxed out? Or config issue?

Good day,  we are getting delay when trying to access web,  at least 5 second delay when going to websites.  speedtest varies from 1.6 to 5.7mB.  Oracle Database long transactions are dropping and needing to be restarted. 

Should  be a 7MB DSL.  

Are the  BW 5000 Kbit/sec, RxBW 7000 Kbit/sec, DLY 20000 usec, correct?  I read these are only QOS related, but no QOS on device.

What is the model of your router?

Looks like your DSL link of 7 Mbps is not enough.

I see that too,  is the ATM0 interface related to the dialer interface?   I see bandwidth on Dialer 1 as 5000kbits,  why does the ATM interface have low BW?  From my undestanding the dialer interface is virtual to get PPPoE going. And the ATM0 is the physical interface? Thanks for the feedback.

What model is your router?

You may need to configure traffic shapping.  Notice on the ATM interface you have output drops.  This means that the remote end device of the ATM interface is dropping packets.

I cheked the configuration and it seems like your active bandwidth is somewhere close to 512kbps.

VCIs per VPI: 1024,

Max. Datagram Size: 4528

PLIM Type: ADSL - 512Kbps Upstream, DMT, TX clocking: LINE

1850 input, 2 output, 1293339 IN fast, 1094027 OUT fast

On the dialer interface:-

THese 3 results evidently showed that your net bandwidth asllowed acording to the Telco and according to the line rate is not more than .5 megs.

We can enable ATM layer traffic shapping or can enable policing under the dialer interface to privent this.

Please try the following command:-

Policy-map TEST

class class-default

police rate percent 99

Please make sure you change the bandwidth statement under the dialer as 512kbps , else calculation will be done according to the current bandwidth command which is manually 5000 kbps.

Apply policy to the dialer:-

service-policy out TEST

Once this policy will be configured please take the output of :-

show policy-map interface dialer 1

It will show you the offered rate and drop rate , drop rate will be observed once policer will start polcing above 512.

NEXT ACTION:-

1. Please provide the above outputs (show policy-map int dia 1)

2. show interface dia1

3. Change th hold-queue valus under the dialer to 100 (hold-queue 100 out)

4. Confirm with the telco about the line rate and allowed bandwidth.

Here are the results, I dont see any current drops,  may have to check it later.  Why would the DSL interace ever be at 512k?  Is one interface for upstream vs downstream..?   I know I have heard of 512 k upstream and 5MB download for DSL. Please clarify for understanding.  thanks.

You could check with your telco if they have a dsl profile with better upstream.

Talk to your ISP and get them to sort this problem out.  You've got a bad line.  Attenuation should be 20 dB and BELOW.
