High Latency on Eigrp

Hi,

I have used a ospf as a routing protocol. When using ospf the ping response was 2-3 ms, now I changed the routing protocol to EIGRP, disabling the OSPF. Now the ping response is 20-25 ms. Why the latency grows up, I don't understand. The EIGRP is working fine but the network gets slow. Why this happen and what should I do to solve this. The static route also ping with 2-3 ms. While tracing the path is ok, the result is like static route.

Please help,

Mero

A ping response is dependant on the latency on the links and the response time taken by the end hosts. A routing protocol doesn't have a role there

Can you share the ping and trace results while using ospf and eigrp

Thanks

Raju

Dear Raju,

Please look at the following tracert command result

EIGRP

++++++

C:\Users\DELL>tracert 10.20.199.120

Tracing route to 10.20.199.120 over a maximum of 30 hops

  1    <1 ms     1 ms     1 ms  10.20.4.1

  2    <1 ms     1 ms     1 ms  10.20.0.4

  3    20 ms    21 ms    20 ms  10.20.142.199

  4    21 ms    22 ms    26 ms  10.20.199.120

Hi

The dealy is happening between 2nd and 3rd hop

While running eigrp, can you login to 3rd hop and check if your return route is correct on that device

Also try a ping and trace from the 3rd hope back to your host and check the status

Thanks

raju

Dear Raju,

C:\Users\DELL>tracert 10.20.199.120

Tracing route to 10.20.199.120 over a maximum of 30 hops

  1    <1 ms     1 ms     1 ms  10.20.4.1

  2    <1 ms     1 ms     1 ms  10.20.0.4

  3    20 ms    21 ms    20 ms  10.20.142.199

  4    21 ms    22 ms    26 ms  10.20.199.120

1 is my network router

2 is main router

3 and 4 same router, 10.20.142.199 network connected to WAN interface and 10.20.199.1 connected to LAN.

No issue on the destination router, what may be the problem.

Regards,

Mero

As mentioned earlier, the delay is heppening on your 2nd 3rd router

We need to troubleshoot further to narrow down the issue

Can you share the following outputs

1. From your host Trace to 10.20.142.199

2. From 1st router  trace to 10.20.142.199 and 10.20.199.120

3. From 2nd router trace to 10.20.142.199 and 10.20.199.120

4. From 3rd router trace back to your host connected on 1st router

Thanks

Raju

A network diagram of your topology would be handy!

Also did you check your router's memory and cpu while running EIGRP is it higher when compared to static routes?

Is auto summary turned on in your eigrp configuration on the router? If so, turn it off.
