I have 3 routers, R1 and R2 are connected directly via primary and secondary IP address. R3 is connected to R2 with a primary address. i configured static routing on R3 so it could connect with R1 using its secondary address. when i checked to see if it works, i could only ping the interface connecting R2 to R1 but i couldn't ping R1. Please i need help. Thanks

Hi there,
Sounds like you need to configure a static route on R1 to reach R3 via R2 .
You have configured one direction of the path, but not the other. Maybe use an IGP to dynamically resolve this issue.
cheers,
Seb.

I configured static route on R3 to reach R1 via R2.. i've now done same on R1. R3 can now reach R1 via R2 but R1 can't reach R3. what could be the problem? Thanks

Are you able to provide the running config. It still sounds like a route to R3 is missing on R1 .

It is working now. R1 was using the primary address as the source address when pinging R3, so what i did was to use extended ping and specified the source address which in this case is the secondary ip address. Thank you very.much. I really appreciate your help. Cheers
