Hi I just want some expert to confirm one concept. Regarding inbound/outbound traffic in BGP,  does the traffic means data flow or route flow? I know the two concept--route flow and data flow move just in opposite direction.

It refers to the traffic.

So as you say you affect inbound traffic by your outbound route policies eg. AS path prending, MED and your outbound traffic by your inbound route policies eg. local preference and weight.

Jon

traffic refers to data flow, right?

Yes.

Jon

Usually, in BGP connection between ISP and client, can we say that ISP use as-path and MED to control routes and the client use weight and local preference to control route? can the client side use as-path or MED to control routes? Thank you

Yes the client can use those as I already said.

All of them are used for influencing the path taken between ASs, that is the best way to think about it.

Jon
