IP Network /31 on ethernet links between 2 router

Hello,

I've read that it is possible to configure a /31 network on a serial link between 2 routers to preserve address space. As that example highlighted serial connections I'm wondering if the same is possible on an ethernet connections between 2 router.

Does anybody know? Any hint or information is appreciated.

Dirk

Dirk,

yes, it will work. You will get a warning saying that you should be careful when using /31 on a broadcast interface, but it will work. Basically you will still be able to do local broadcasts (255.255.255.255), but directed broadcasts will no longer work. I'm sure you don't care about directed broadcasts anyway.

Regards,

Roman
