Hello guys!

i wanted to ask if we combine IP SLA with object tracking and then link it to a route (default) doesnt it accomplishes the same thing as the first hop redundancy protocols does?

or its switching the router vs switching the route ?
i am getting confuse at it please help if you can i am currently studying and its stuck in my mind.

cheers

Hello.

If you replace FHRP with ip_sla, this would move point of decision from router to end-host. It may be desirable in some circumstances, but having number of end-hosts, makes the design non-scalable.

Also if you track just a reachability of a router, this does not guarantee, that the router will be able to forward the traffic properly (with FHRP, router may decrease priority signalling to a peer, that something is wrong).
