IPv6 Addressing Question

All,

When using ULA of FC00::/7, and you have a 2001::/64 address, do you need to NAT the traffic outbound like you would with private addresses in IPv4? I was under the impression that nat was going away with IPv6, and everything that I'm reading states that ULA addresses aren't routable. For that I'd need to use a global address. I'm trying to figure out when the ULAs are actually used because I've only seen the GA in examples.

Thanks,

John

For ULA only machine, NAT or tunnelling seem to be the options.

Thanks.

Well it's only the ULA that's not routable.

If ULA's the only space configured on the host, it will be dropped on the Internet. In this case, if some one needs to access the Internet/Out-of-Site space, NAT seems to be inevitable.

HTH.

Rais,

So, I'm under the correct assumption that in order to use ULA there will need to be some sort of NAT to the global address?

Thanks,

John
