Is there a way to tell if a specific multicast group being treated as Sparse or Dense?

I am trying to troubleshoot a problem where a specific multicast group seems to have been pushed to sites that shouldn't necessarily have needed that group. The size of the stream for that group took down these sites because they didn't have enough bandwidth for the group and they lost EIGRP neighborships. All sites are configured as sparse-dense. I can't seem to find a way to determine what decides whether a group is treated as sparse or dense. Any ideas?

Hello

Check the rp announce/discovery flags in the mroute table

sh ip mroute | B Flags

sh ip mroute | S 224.0.1.39|224.0.1.40
