Issue: I currently have an under-powered Cisco router and non-Cisco switch. Want to replace with ISR4451, running 16.08.01 (Fuji) with two SM-X-ES3-24-P modules (24-port switches), running 15.0(2)EJ. I tried to follow the instructions in this document using BDI. #3 is not a valid command:
1. configure terminal 2. interface Ethernet-Internal 1/0/0 3. service instance 1 ethernet 4. encapsulation dot1q 20 5. rewrite ingress tag pop 1 symmetric 6. bridge-domain 1 split-horizon group 0 7. interface Ethernet-Internal 2/0/0 8. service instance 1 ethernet 9. encapsulation dot1q 20 10. rewrite ingress tag pop 1 symmetric 11. bridge-domain 1 split-horizon group 0 12. interface BDI 1 13. mtu 9216 14. ip address 10.0.0.1 255.255.255.0
Someone asked me to post this output:
router(config)#ethernet-internal subslot 1/0 router(config-ether-internal)#platform ? switchport Switchport configuration router(config-ether-internal)#platform switchport ? svi SVI mode router(config-ether-internal)#platform switchport svi ? <cr> <cr> router(config-ether-internal)#ethernet-internal subslot 2/0 router(config-ether-internal)#platform ? switchport Switchport configuration router(config-ether-internal)#platform switchport ? svi SVI mode router(config-ether-internal)#platform switchport svi ? <cr> <cr>
Configuring SVI as per the document allows the router and switch to ping each other. I configured my ISPs static IP into one of the on-board router ports and the router is able to ping hosts on the internet, but the switch interfaces are not, even though they can ping the static IP configured into the router interface.
Can someone offer me suggestions, or preferably sample configuration commands, so I can get the router and switch to be able to talk to each other and out to the internet? Since this is a new configuration it doesn't matter to me if it is SVI or BDI or any other solution.

look at this post that says:
You enable SVI support like this:ethernet-internal subslot 1/0
platform switchport svi
Then you have to reboot and you can just trunk your VLANs to the switch module like you would on any layer 3 switch:
