Issues with DHCP server on Cisco 1841

radiomean

Hi, this is a simple issue but I have been looking at documentation and I can't get anywhere so I will ask the experts...

I am setting up a DHCP server on an 1841 router with a HWIC-AP-AG card. It's running IOS 15.1(3)T2 adventerprise with 256 Mb of ram.

((I know it's all old tech but I have my reasons!))

I am simply using the HWIC-AP card as an access point. I have manually assigned an IP address of 192.168.2.1 to the g wireless and 192.168.5.1 to the a wireless.

I've configured the following DHCP pool:

no ip dhcp conflict logging
ip dhcp excluded-address 192.168.2.1 192.168.2.32
!
ip dhcp pool two
network 192.168.2.0 255.255.255.0
default-router 192.168.2.1
dns-server 8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4
domain-name ****.com
lease 0 2
!

I can associate a laptop fine and access the router using static IP but when I try to use DHCP an address is briefly assigned, then declined and a self-determined IP appears on the laptop. And the next IP address is then assigned and so on...

The output of the DHCP server is below:

*Aug 17 22:03:10.226: %DOT11-6-ASSOC: Interface Dot11Radio0/1/0, Station c49d.ed07.06aa Associated SSID[ciscotest2] AUTH_TYPE[OPEN] KEY_MGMT[NONE]

change the lease 0 2 to correct config :

lease {days [hours][minutes] | infinite}

some time may be due to bug may happens :

test with below and adjust accordingly - if that works

lease infinite

If the suggestion about changing the lease does not solve the issue perhaps you might provide more details about the configuration of the 1841?

Hi Richard,

The config is in a post further up...

But, I've changed the IOS to 15.1 (1) T and everything, including DHCP, is working.

I remember saying to a friend 'I thought Cisco didn't do bugs...' and he fell about laughing

I am finding plenty of bugs.

Cheers and thanks for the comments...

Hi again, I seem to have accidentally generated two threads for this topic, hence my reply about the config - which is posted in the other thread. But it is now working, so thanks...

Glad all working - what what the fix, not sure about other thread, i was not part of it.

As simple as using a different version of IOS...

I was using c1841-adventerprisek9-mz.151-3.T2 and it failed - I tried a 12.4 T version and it worked and then I tried c1841-adventerprisek9-mz.151-1.T which also worked!

Cheers!

Thanks for the update. Glad to know that the issue appears to be just an issue with the version of code.
