Memory utilzation thresholds

Hi Guys, 

Is there any standard threshold for Cisco 1800 router memory utilization after which we should really look after for upgradation ?

I have observed 70% constant utilization for almost 6 months but want to know if any standard cisco white paper available for thresholds.

Hello Santosh,

I dont think there is some defind threshold for 1800. But if you are  not facing any issue to the current traffic , you are good to go till 80% I believe. If you have a plan for IOS upgrade or any additional feature in near future, then yes you can go for an upgradation

Thanks Harish for the reply. I have seen BGP processes (PID=257) showing almost 2GB. I guess there is something wrong ?

Hello Santosh,

You have  currently 67 % of memory being used. The one which you are seeing is allocated memory by BGP process over a period of time and if you see multiple outputs you can see that, allocated and freed memory counter are getting increased.

It allocates and free the memory after sometime. The  holding memory is the actual memory being used by each process .
