I have a quick question... I see both MFSC and MSFC referenced in Cisco documentation. Are both valid acronymns? Do they stand for different things or used interchangeably?
Thanks!

Hi
Had a quick search for this on Cisco site. It would appear that the vast majority of entries for MFSC are typos which are meant to say MSFC (Multilayer switch Feature Card) which is the card that is responsible for the routing in the high end layer 3 switches.
Good example of this typo is here
see entry under Catalyst 6000 and then look at footnote 1 at bottom of table.
I did find mention of a Multi-Function service card but i haven't come across these before.
By far the one you will see most often is MSFC.

Hi,
As Jon stated its a typo, i've gone through this issue when converting my 6500 from CatOS to IOS, and after searching and searching i was convinced that its a typo.

Hi,
If you are referring the 6500 Series products then I strongly feel that its a typo for MSFC.
I haven't see anything so far MFSC, hence request you to please submit the URL also where you have come across the MFSC.
