Hello all, i have some standalone routers (1100-4G)that i have been asked to install VIPTELLA 20.3.3 onto

They are currently running IOS XE SDWAN isr1100be 17.4.1a

Having looked all morning but without any luck, is there any documentation on how to achieve this migration anywhere, i have only console and cli access, nothing is in operational mode, i dont have v manage

Thank you

how are you managing your SD-wan Environment. ( you need to suite like vsmart, vbond and vmanage part of the solution)

other than cEdge  and vEdge , i do not see any difference here, configured your running interface as cEdge in vEdge ?

what is the challenge here ?

How to Ask The Cisco Community for Help

The SDWAN environment doesn't exist yet, i simply want to know if possible to convert from IOS XE SDWAN to Viptela OS without having a suite in place to do this, IE i only have console/CLI based access at this moment?

1. Copy the viptela image to your IOSXE bootflash

2. Router#request platform software sdwan software install bootflash:<viptela image>

3 Router#show sdwan software

VERSION ACTIVE DEFAULT PREVIOUS CONFIRMED TIMESTAMP
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
X.X.X.X.X false false false - 2024-08-12T16:17:46-00:00

4. Router#request platform software sdwan software activate X.X.X.X.X
after this command it should reload in Viptela OS
NOTE. You will need to change Baud rate to 115200 when the reload has happened.

Hope this helps

Migration from IOSXE to vEdge

  • Detach the template attached to the device (if present)
  •  In Cisco vManage, select Maintenance> Software Upgrade
  • Select a router in the table and click Upgrade
  • In the Software Upgrade pop-up:
    • Select the vManage option
    • In the Version field, select the operating system image to use in the upgrade:-
      • For migrating to IOS-XE from vEdge, select a vEdge image.
      • Select the 'Activate and Reboot' and 'Confirm' checkboxes.
      • Click Upgrade. The Task View page displays progress. The device reboots at the end of the upgrade process (this process takes several minutes: ~20 mins)
    • In the Task View, verify that the migration is completed successfully (green tick mark against the task and "Done – Software Install" status)
  • In Cisco vManage, select Configuration > Devices and select the WAN Edge List table.
  • In the table row for the upgraded device, click More Actions (…) and select 'Migrate Device'. A warning pop-up appears, indicating that the upgrade clears the existing statistics, event history, and configuration. Click Yes to continue.
  • On the Configuration page, click Refresh. In the Device Model column, verify that the device shows the correct operating system, according to the migration. If you migrated the device to vEdge, it says Viptela OS.

Note: After the migration is complete, the device operates as any other device running the selected operating system. Optionally, you can use Cisco vManage to push a device template to add additional configuration to the device.
