Mixed Stack C3750G + C3750X IOS Update

Hello,

I have running a Stack with two C3750G-24TS-S1U with the IOS c3750-ipbasek9-mz.122-50.SE3.

Now I want put a new C3750X-24T-S in the existing stack. I have read this is possible. I have running a other mixed stack with a C3750G-12S and an C3750E-48TD. Its running fine until I want to make an IOS update. The update was done with the CW LMS 3.1. After the automatic update and restart only the C3750E had an new IOS the C3750G doesn't have any IOS.

Do I have the same problem with the mixed Stack C3750G and C3750X?

Do I have to upgrade the IOS by copying the different IOS Versions ( c3750-ipbasek9-mz.122-50.SE3 / c3750e-ipbasek9-mz.122-50.SE3) to every switch?

Kind regards

Ludwig

If your plain 3750 only has 16 mb flash then the highest you can go is 12.2(55)SE.

Depending on what the model of 3750X, your plain 3750 must be upgraded to 12.2(53)SE2 and later.  The 3750X will need to use Universal IOS with IP Base license level.

My plain 3750 has 32 mb flash. So I think In don't have any problems with an automatic update. Is this right?

IF your entire switches in the stack have 32mb memory then you can upgrade all the way up to 15.0.

I was checking this thread as I have the same questions, which aren't really answered in my opinion...

If the memory is ok (I do have to check this for my stack): Is it possible to use the same Base software (c3750e...SE3) for the older C3750G switches ; or what should we verify next to memory ?

Edit: I would like to get this stack working together, what would be the best approach ?  Would an upgrade of the C3750 / C3750G to 12.2(55)SE4 be compatible with 12.2(55)SE3 of the C3750X ?

For those who are visiting this thread trying to calm those fools asking to mix stacks, like me, I can say: IT IS POSSIBLE!

There are certain considerations that have to be met previously to achieve this possibility.

First of all, you HAVE to match same train of Versions.

Secondly you have to achieve the same licensed features, everything has to meet the same flavour, for the record IPBASE, IPSERVICES or LANBASE.

Note that I am not talking about Software Image, as you will see you can mix Plain IOS with UNIVERSALs.

After this if you are still afraid of mixing gears I can tell that I have a stack working in production with 3 members one of them a brand new "licensed universal" 3750X.

     3 30    WS-C3750X-24S      12.2(58)SE2           C3750E-UNIVERSALK9-M

I hope this will help
