All,
Can you help? I am trying to provide backup to a remote site and the second line has been presented with a G.703 signaling on a RJ-45 interface. A few months back someone on here recommended a VWIC2-1MFT-G703 module. This module doesn't work with a 1721 or 1841 router.
Any ideas on how to get this working? The module shows in the hardware profile but doesn't show when you do a sh ip int brief.
Thanks

The version 2 cards require them to be defined first using the below command
card type
But as per the data sheet it is not supported on the 17xx or the 18xx

Hello Isaac,
it should be a question of IOS image on both routers.
C1721 can support the module for data only but it is what you need.
see
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/routers/ps5855/product_data_sheet0900aecd8028d2db.html
see table 1 you need at least
12.3(14)T on 1721
to see the corret image you can use
Hope to help

VWIC2-MFT-G703 is not supported on the 17xx platform but VWIC2-MFT-T1/E1 is supported

Hello Narayan,
so table 1 in
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/routers/ps5855/product_data_sheet0900aecd8028d2db.html
is wrong in the column VWIC2-1MFT-G703) shows that release for support on 1721.
Thanks

Conflicting information on the data sheet for both of them :-)
I think the best way would be foe him to upgrade the IOS and test

Many Thanks guys. I only have the 1841 running 12.4(1c). I will power on the router and define the card settings and see what happens

The router sees the card now. I installed with default values. The alarm light is on (no line is connected at present) but what I am worried about is timeslots. I sued 1-31 (default E1 since I do not have any info from the providers). I hope this works when I send it to the location.

The G703 module supports both framed and unframed..
The timeslots configuration is fine if it is a framed circuit. If unframed you can use
channel-group 0 unframed which provides 2048kbps
