MTU Increase on Cisco 3650

Hello,

I've been told by my ISP to increase the MTU size to 9198 on my Cisco 3650.  It's currently set to the default 1500 mtu.  In order to accomplish this I would need to use is the global system mtu command. I'm wondering if this will cause any issues with network connectivity.  I don't think it will, but just want a sanity check before implementing as there are hosts connected and I don't want to inadvertently negatively impact the VMs connected to the hosts.

Thanks,

Allan

That command alone should not cause any issues. Do note that a reboot of the switch is necessary to actually enable the larger MTU.

I misread your model. 3650's do not require a reload, the 3560's do.

Thanks for reply and confirming that the 3650's do no require a reboot.  I was digging into the manual to see if they did and didn't see that it was required after applying the command.

Reload is not required for sure , but you need to looks at routing protocol this will be system wide change and if MTU on other side mismatched might cause issue.

Better to go for work window.
