Multicast routing ?

Hello, we have servers running multicast traffic on one site of our WAN however the core router at that site has multicast routing disabled. I have confirmed that on the CLI.

However at another WAN site we can see multicast traffic coming that site in large amounts to 239.x.x.x addresses.

How could this be possible if we have multicast routing disabled ?

Thank you.

Hello @tedauction ,

some 239.x.x.x addresses are used by some services to locate resources like printers and so on.

So the multicast streams with these addresses that you see on remote site may be locally generated and not coming from the first site.

Another possible option is that there is a GRE point to point tunnel between a router on one site that connects with a router in second site with multicast enabled over it.

Hope to help

Giuseppe
