Multicasting configs on 3560 SW

OK, I have been doing my home work but you gurus out there might be helpful with a questions I have:

Here is my basic network layout for multicasting for Syn-apps

Multicast Source-->3750 SW (add PIM SM-DM? Yes/No)-->3845 WAN Router (add PIM SM-DM? Yes/No)-->T1-->2821 (add PIM SM-DM? Yes/No)-->3560 SW (add PIM SM-DM? Yes/No)

OK, in this is it nessecary to configure "IP Multicast-routing" on the switches?

Do I configure PIM on all interfaces that will handle multicasting (router and switches?)

If PIM is enabled on the 3750 do I need PIM configured between the 3845 and the 2821?

Do I configure the Auto-RP on the 3750 or the 3845?

Thank a million!

Hi Bill,

if the switches acting as L2 only then you do not need to enable PIM only IGM snooping

however if there is any L# device/interface in the Multicast path including switch VLAN interfaces then each interface has to be multicast/PIM enabled

about Auto-RP if you have simple topology like the above just use the static RP command and make your life easier

just add this command to point to the RP IP inclusing the RP it self

How do I check to see if the 3560 is set up to be a L2 or L3...whould it be the "ip Routing" statement?

Hello,

Yes, Bill.
