Multiple ISP Interfaces (dynamic Ip)

Hi,

I have more than one link from different ISPs (IP Address assigned dynamically), on a 2811 router.

Each interface has different cost so if one interface is going down the cheapest interface must take it over. If the cheapest interface is back online the router must drop the current connection and route to the cheapest ISP connection.

I have tried Policy routing (with ping) only the main problem is how to do this with a wan interface that has a dynamic ip address.

And are there any other protocols that can do the job?

Many thanks in advance,

Gerard

Hi,

You can still do this with policy-based routing. Simply use the 'set interface' command instead of the 'set ip next-hop' command. That way, you only need to specify the interface name, and not it's IP address. If the interface goes down, it is no longer treated as a valid next-hop and the next interface will then be considered.
