Native vlan with 802.1Q

Hi guys,

I have attached a diagram in which i wish to ping from Host A to Host B.Is it possible to do so..If not..why ?? If yes (has it got something to so with native vlan .explain the packet tagging till it reaches switch B).

Yes, that should work. What will happen:

1. Host A sends a packet which is received without vlan tag on the access-port in vlan 10.
2. The switch forward the packet on the trunk without vlan-tag because 10 is the native vlan.
3. Switch 2 receives the packet without a tag and interprets it as belonging to vlan 20.
4. Host B can receive the packet because the access port connecting host B is also in vlan 20.

For sure it should. And using something like this in production is most likely a misconfiguration and a potential source of many problems.

But when learning Vlans, these are questions that should be understood.
