Hello Guys,

I have configued two T1 dsu/csu card on two Ciso 3640.Back-to-back for my lab. I used RJ45 crossover cable between them. Both cards are in alarm(AL) what protocol or permeter that I am missing to make both routers talk to each other? See beloow and advised.

service-module t1 linecode b8zs

no service-module t1 remote-alarm-enable

no service-module t1 fdl

encapsulation frame-relay

frame-relay lmi-type cisco

can u please paste the config for both the routers or atleast both connected interfaces?

any cisco router 2500 or higher should be ok as frame-switch, you will need enough ports/interfaces in the router depending number of routers you want to connect. some links:

a rj45 cross won't work. You need 1-4 2-5 cable

Hello Tdrais,

Thanks for responding; can you be more specific about the cables? what type of cable should I get to make these two router communicates? you mean the cat 5 cable pin out?

Thx,

Eric

I assume someone sells these but I always just make them.

This link has a good picture.

Thanks Tdrais, Both DSU/CSU CD led light are green but no link between both routers. Any idea >>add or remove?

you can do back to back connection between 2 t1 csu/dsu, check this link:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps233/products_tech_note09186a00800a3f09.shtml

u can use the pinout to build the cross over t1 cable.

but i think u cant use frame-relay as layer 2 protocol though without a frame switch connceted in between or have a cisco router acting as frame switch, but u should be able to use ppp as layer 2 protocol

Rajib,

I have pin out cable correctly CD led light is up and change the serial int to encap PPP but still no link between them. This is driving me crazy as I could not resolute this issue. Any idea??

can u please paste the config for both the routers or atleast both connected interfaces?

I have attached both routers config. Please advise as why I could not make both talk to each other. My T1 crossover cable as follow

1 >> 4

2 >> 5

4 >> 1

5 >> 2

CD led light is green on both card and Orange AL (alarm) light on both card as well.

Please advise asap!

Thx,

Eric

I got it resolved after try and errors procedures on both routers. Make clocking source line on both end do not make other end internal that was my problem. If you fellow below config yours will work fine. Thank you all for your help and advised.

encapsulation hdlc

bandwidth 1544

service-module t1 clock source line

service-module t1 data-coding normal

service-module t1 timeslots all speed 64

service-module t1 framing esf

no service-module t1 remote-alarm-enable

no service-module t1 fdl

glad to know that u got it resolved

Rajib,

What or which cisco device would be good for as frame-relay switch? I have 3640 with 4 dsu/csu card can I make this router act as frame switch?. Please advice
