New ISR4221 asking for username and password

I just purchased a new lab bundle containing Cisco ISR4221 routers. However, when they boot, they are asking for a username and password. The defaults of admin and cisco do not work. No problem I think, boot it into rommon mode and tell it to ignore startup configuration. Now it boots into user exec and I can get into privileged exec however, when I try and enter global configuration mode, it tells me command not supported in this mode. I then tried running setup. This allows me to go in and set the enable and enable secret passwords, but when I reload and boot back into the startup configuration, it again asks me for a username and password. I am at a loss, I have never had a router act like this.

Hello,

--> I then tried running setup. This allows me to go in and set the enable and enable secret passwords, but when I reload and boot back into the startup configuration, it again asks me for a username and password. I am at a loss, I have never had a router act like this.

After you set the enable passwords, what does the config look like ? Before you reload, do you save the running to the startup config ?

Can you post the output of 'show ver' ?

Yes, I am saving but as soon as it reboots, I am back to the username and password screen.

Hello,

post the output of 'sh ver'...

Here is the output of show version.

Configuration register is 0x2102

I have been able to login with admin as the username and admin as the password. However, when I enter configure terminal it says that the command is not supported.

Hello,

I was looking for the configuration register setting, which is 2102, and that is the correct value.

At the router prompt, does it let you access the setup utility ?

Router#setup <enter>

Yes, I can access setup and it is saving the configuration, but I still can't get into global configuration mode.

Thanks

Yes, I have gone through those steps. However, even if I didn't, I still should be able to enter the global configuration mode.

I also can't do an erase startup-configuration from the privileged exec mode. Gives me the same error "This command not supported".

This is an update as to the status of my problem. I have determined that the default username is admin and the default password is admin. This allows me to login to the router and enter privileged exec mode. However, when I try and enter global configuration mode, it tells me that the command is not supported. This is the same message I receive when trying to enter any command that would change the configuration. I can enter the setup mode and configure IP addresses etc. However, I don't understand what the problem is.

@tbyers0What problem now? We also have problems like you

The problem is that the router isn't loading the IOS. I downloaded the most current IOS to a usb flash drive then booted the router into rommon mode. I changed the configuration register to 0x0 and rebooted. This forced the router to boot into rommon mode. Once in this new rommon mode, I was able to force the router to boot to the flash drive. Once it loaded the IOS from the flash drive, the router functioned the way it was supposed to. Then I was able to enter global configuration mode and make the necessary changes to get it to boot to the IOS on the system flash drive.

Thank you for reply.

I also thought it was like that and few day ago I sent a request to the company to provide IOS but I still haven't received it so far. If you can, pls share for me?

Thank you so much

I cannot share the IOS. You must get this from cisco directly. However, the IOS that is currently on there should work if you tell the router to boot to it. In the 0X0 rommon mode, enter the command boot flash: IOS filename You can find the IOS filename using the dir flash: command.
