Hi,

OSPF configuration depends on the design of your OSPF Network.

You can refer to OSPF Design Guide http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/104/1.html

You can also refer to OSPF Support Page http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk365/tk480/tsd_technology_support_sub-protocol_home.html

[EDIT] Alternatively you can purchase Cisco Command and Configuration Handbook http://www.ciscopress.com/bookstore/product.asp?isbn=1587050714

Dandy

Based on the size of your network topology you can either have the OSPF confuration in a single area or build an hierarchial network with multiple areas. When multiple areas are configured, they should be connected to area 0 for inter area communication.

In OSPF, everytime there is a change in the state of link or route then entire topology goes through SPF algorithm & routing table is recalculated. Imagine if the network is large with hundreds of routers & large link state database size then it would be highly cpu intensive for router. So breaking the topology in to areas limit the flooding of database to other areas evrytime the topology changes. So whenever there is change in an area, only routers associated with those area need to run SPF & calculate routes while router in other are not involved.

So while you design the network, you need to keep in mind the size of network in terms of number of router & size of the link state database.
