Why would there be discrepancies between the ospf database and the entries in the routing table. If I do show ip ospf database there are a significant number of entries that are not shown but are in the network list under router ospf....
Why would this be? We are having occasional connectivity problems with 2 of the subnets that are not in the ospf database but are in the network router list.
Any help you can give is appreciated.

hi Alex,
As I said earlier, all routers with in an area would have the same topology database. That means, same entries.
The only thing i think u are missing is, you have to check it under the Router LSA for the advertising router.
show ip ospf database router <192.168.162.1>
Check the same command on the router in which u suspect its not there.

Sudeep

A couple of things that I can think of would be that you could be learning from a different routing protocol with a lower AD. If you're only running OSPF, the route needs to be accessible or it won't be put in the routing table. What type of LSAs are missing? Summary, External?

What IOS and device is this? Do you have the issue with the same two networks or does it vary?
11-12-2012 07:46 AM
It can vary as to which network it is and is really random as it can be happening today and not in a weeks time.
Our core routers are Cisco 6509 running Version 12.1(11b)E4 with Supervisor 2 engines.
We have been investigating this on and off for several months and today I noticed this in the ospf database and think this is the issue.

Alex
I see network statements configured under router ospf for these networks. But we do not know if there are interfaces that are up/up that match the network statements. Perhaps posting the output of show ip interface brief would be a starting place to determine this.

Alex
Thank you for the information that I requested. It does show that there appear to be networks that should match the network statements. So for the next step I would ask that you post the output of show ip ospf interface and also the running config for interfaces vlan449 and vlan468/

Hi Alex,
Since these are all directly connected interfaces, it would be part of the router LSA. Please check if those interface/ip ranges are mentioned under the following output.,
"show ip ospf database router 192.168.162.2"
Also these addresses can come under "network LSA", only if its a ABR. This is because, the LInk ID would be the interface/subnet address.
Let me know if tht helps

Sudeep

Number of TOS metrics: 0

Hello Alex,
God morning and thanks for the update.
So now u see it in your database under inside Router LSA. Did that answer your question
regards,
Sudeep

Hi Sudeep
I am more confused now. I can see it when I enter the command
"show ip ospf database router 192.168.162.2"
but when I connect to router 192.168.162.2 and issue the command
"show ip ospf database"
i cannot see the networks. Surely I should be able to see it as well when running both commands

Hi,
Sudeep means that you won't see these subnets on ospf database on this router because it directly connected:

You need to check these subnets on other router's ospf database.
In OSPF database you see only subnets that are advertised by neighbor ospf routers.

Hi Abzal
I understand that now however
I have looked on another router 192.168.162.1 and as can be seen from the out put below this does not show the networks either

Hi Alex,
The purpose of this LSA type is to describe router’s links (interfaces) in such a way that other routers in the same area can understand it and build their SPF trees based on that information. The Link ID for router LSA would the Router ID itself.
You can see this link informations only by executing "show ip ospf database
