OSPFv3 LSA5/7 Forwarding Address

Hi,

I know there is an optional Forwarding Address field in LSA5 and LSA7 in OSPFv3 :

"Forwarding Address, if included, is a fully specified 128-bit IPv6 address representing the next hop to the destination prefix. It is included only if the F Flag is set" (Routing TCP/IP Vol2)

However, using Cisco routers I have never been able to see it specified. For example, if using a basic NSSA design with routers serving as pseudo ASBR (LSA 7-5 translator), they never set this field, in opposition with OSPFv2.

So my question: is the FA field part of the RFC but not yet implememted for OSPFv3 (on Cisco routers)? Or am I just using it wrong here?

Thanks,

Thomas

As you mentioned, the RFC makes the FA setting optional and as far as I know it is not supported in IOS.
