I want to use one ISP for the outgoing traffic for a a specific vlan .if that ISP fails or BGP fails will the outgoing traffic from that vlan takes the other ISP link .

Mostly the answer to your questions depends on how you have configured PBR.

In the most simple case where you have just configured PBR and set the next hop, if the router knows that the next hop is not available then it does not do PBR and will just use the default routing. This probably works ok if the next hop is over a point to point serial interface. Otherwise you probably need to get involved with PBR verify-reachabilty (which gets you into IP SLA etc).

If the router does recognize that the PBR next hop is not reachable (which may require tracking and IP SPA) then the traffic will just use the normal routing table logic.

Thanks Richard,

In my case the since 6509 is  the l3 device (it has the source vlan and wan interfaces), my routers's WAN ip(customer edge, CE IP) is configured as the the next hop .Is that correct way of doing it?

Should i configure the provider edge PE IP as the next hop ?

If I configure PE IP as the next hop ,as per your explanation if the BGP goes down it should work as per the routing table .

Let's do the easy part first:

- Whether BGP is up or is down does not change how PBR attempts to forward traffic. I am not sure what part of my response you interpret to say that BGP plays any role in PBR.

Based on the very limited information that you have provided I would think that your router WAN IP would be the appropriate next hop. Beyond that I would need to have more information about your environment and how your PBR is configured.
