I'm trying to diagnose a problem where a multi-mode fiber SFP on one of the built-in ports of a 7201 drops connectivity from time to time, most often when someone is physically near the device. I'm thinking either the cable is bad or the SFP is not seated correctly, but what I've found as odd is that every time it drops, it is for a multiple of 3 seconds, to the thousandth -- it could be 6.000, 12.000, 36.000, but always with the .000, as below
4899: Apr 12 15:45:41.800 EDT: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface GigabitEthernet0/3, changed state to down
4902: Apr 12 15:46:17.800 EDT: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface GigabitEthernet0/3, changed state to up
4948: Apr 13 08:09:06.664 EDT: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface GigabitEthernet0/3, changed state to down
4950: Apr 13 08:09:15.664 EDT: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface GigabitEthernet0/3, changed state to up
Every other incident I have also matches to the thousandth. Is there some routine which says "I think this port might be bad, let me test again in 3.000 seconds?"

First change the fibre. If the problem persist then change the SFP.

With all due respect, that response is a) completely unhelpful and b) does not answer the question I posed.
