port inactive/down-Cat2960

Gday People,

Got a mind-boggling issue with a Gig0/2 port on Cat2960 48TTL, the port seens dud. I cant enable it, its not shutdown either. However, when I restart the switch, on CNA, i can see the interface flash amber (as all ports do when restarted) and goes grey. The cable is ok and works on other interfaces on the same switch. Without having to buy a whole new equipment, is there a way I can test wether the port is faulty, as in physically, or I have missed something.

Check if the port belongs to a vlan which no longer exists.

Yes you can.

Plug the cable back to Gi0/2 and do the following CLI commands:

1.  conf t

2.  int g0/2

3.  media rj

4.  end

5.  test cable tdr int g0/2

6.  wait for 5-7 seconds

7.  sh cable tdr int g 0/2

when you are done, undo # 3 by doing 1 and 2 and on the 3rd step type the command "media auto" and then "end.

Post the output of step # 7/

It's OK.  The output is good enough.

Pair A and B are OK and this two pairs signify that Ethernet (Pair A) is working and the link will negotiate to 10/100Base (Pair B).

Pair C dictates if you can negotiate to 1Gb.  But with a result of "Open" this means that you have an open circuit.

Configure the local side to negotiate to 100 mb (speed 100) and the links should be go up/up.

Try to replace the remote-end patch cable.

actually, I am trying to establish an etherchannel between 2 gig  ports on 3560 and 2960 each. so far have created a port-channel  interface, channel-group3 and assinged the channel group to the gig  ports on 3560 and 2960. however, I can not get the Gig0/2 on 2960 up.

After I ran the test again, following is the result

Change the patch cable.  The OPEN status for Pair C prevents the link from going to GigabitEthernet speed (10/100 is do-able if Pair "C" is OPEN).

Nope, the ports set to trunk and no such unused vlans configured.
