Prioritizing Video for Sign Language Interpreters.

Greetings Cisco Community,

We have a video image quality problem with Cisco Z70 over the ZVRS website,(ZVRS provides sign language interpreters for about 20 of our hearing-impaired employees.) The video image randomly breaks up and is un-viewable. This happens throughout the day and doesn't seem to coincide with high traffic periods.

We are running Cisco 3850Cisco IOS Version 16.3.5b on the edge, Cisco fiber switches as aggregation,(model escapes me now, though they are in the 3800 series), 7706NX-OS Version 7.3(0)DX(1) &  Cisco ASR 9006 IOS XR 10.69.31.13 routing. Firewall is PA5505, PAN OS 7.1.19.

QOS is not implemented.

Would QOS be the way to go to improve video? or is there a better option?

Thanks!

QoS in an integral part of deploying video and voice across your network. But  it is only important when multiple applications 'fight' ovrer limitrd available bandwidth. In which case qos will priority queue video and voice. Have you got any reason to believe you have contention on your links? Because rememeber qos is not a silver bullet

Hello,

QoS for video is usually the way to go. That said, QoS will only make sense if there is congestion on the network, so first we need to find out if that is actually happening. What does your topology look like (what is connected to what) ? Can you post the output of 'show interfaces x' (where x are the interfaces that carry the video traffic) from all devices starting with the user switch to the outgoing interface connecting to the ZVRS website ?

Hello

Absolutely qos would be required - even if it just classified for voice and video and everything else left as default - definitely recommended.

My question re: use of sign language interpreters is a bit different -- if not using a third-party sign language interpreter service, for small meetings with only a few participants, how can the video of the sign language interpreter be made to stay on-screen regardless of who is speaking?  (To permit truly simultaneous interpretation?)

Is there a WebEx setting for this?

Thanks!
