Problems with 871W router

Ok, I have tried both a crossover cable and a straight thru cable to communicate with my new router. I cannot use the console cable because I do not have a com port on my computer. I am trying to configure this new router witht he SDM software, but when I plug the cable into the router and my computer, it recognizes it for about 45sec then drops off, doesnt matter which cable I use

Out of the box the unit should have DHCP enabled on FastEthernet Ports 0 - 3 with a subnet of 10.10.10.0 /24, FastEthernet 4 being the WAN interface is shutdown by default.

You will need a patch cable to do the job, my advice would be to ask if you have tried plugging into all the ports? Failing that you will have to find a terminal with a serial port.
