How do you set up QoS for a Voice Vlan. I am setting up a data and a voice vlan. At peak times, I want to give priority to traffic on my voice vlan. How do I set this up. Are their sample configs??

Hello oliver,
which switch/IOS are you using.. the newer models of the hardware supports a feature called auto-qos.. this will automatically give priority to voice traffic, with just a single command.. simple to configure too.. this is ideal for scenarios, where the IP phone connects to the switch, and the PC connects to the IP Phone...
have a look at this URL:

Hope this helps.. all the best..

Hello Oliver,
Yes.. you can use auto-qos for non-cisco IP phones as well... it will work.. you will have to give the command "auto qos voip trust
" for your NEC phone port... if you give "auto qos voip cisco-phone" , only cisco phones can connect to these ports !!!!
Hope this helps.. all the best.. rate replies if found useful...

Okay, one more question. I have a customer that has several locations with Catalayst 3560 switch connected via 10gb MAN and NEC PBX connected via 10/100 ports. They are getting alot of echo when dialing. Will the 3560's support echo cancellation??? and will we have to put some other device in front to support echo cancellation??

Hello oliver,
3560's will not support echo cancellation... echo cancellation is normally done on voice gateways or on PBX systems... switches can do qos to just put the packets onto the wire with a preference... the packets still are only IP based on switches... it is ur voice gateway or pbx where the analog signals are being transformed.. so it is logical to do it there...
Refer to this link.. might be useful..
