Hello All,

Hope everyone is doing well and staying safe.

I am currently looking to purchase a used router for a lab environment. I need a 10GBe router (3 ports)

It should support the below requirements.

  • 10 Gb ethernet ports (3)
  • BGP
  • IPv6
  • DHCPv6
  • NTP
  • Secondary IP (upto 255)

interface GigabitEthernet0/0
ip address 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0 secondary
ip address 192.168.2.1 255.255.255.0 secondary
ip address 192.168.3.1 255.255.255.0 secondary

https://www.cisco.com/E-Learning/bulk/public/tac/cim/cib/using_cisco_ios_software/cmdrefs/ip_address.htm

I was planning to buy a new Cisco router but there is lot of backorder so going for a used one. Any lead is appreciated.

If there is a router from any other vendor that works too as long as it meets the above requirements.

Thank You.

Helo @RonelPaul96063 ,

for a lab environment with 3 tengiga you should  look for an ASR 1000 with a 40 Gbps ESP and the correct tengiga ports.

note: having many secondary IP addresses under the same interface means having thousands of hosts in the same brodacast domain and it is not a good thing ( too many brodcast frames to process for each host )

You should use VLANs and VLAN based subintefaces instead of ip address secondary.

Of course this requires VLAN aware switches that can be configured.

Hope to help

Giuseppe

How much bandwidth do you need?

Only the Catalyst 8500 can support three (or more) SFP+ -- The "smallest" is the C8500-12X (12 x SFP/SFP+ ports).

NOTE:  Cisco will announce ASR EoS/EoL in the next 18 months.
