Switch 2960s doesn't power an iw3702 ap

Hi all,

I have the following issue.

I'm connecting an iw3702 ap directly to a WS-C2960S-24PS-L and nothing happens, the ap never comes up.

If I take the same ap to a different switch in another location it turns up well and register on wlc without a problem. This AP is a WS-C2960S-48FPS-L.

I have changed the IOS just in case I'm hitting some bug from 12.2.55.se7 to 12.2.55.se12 to 15.0.2.se11 and nothing changes.

The WS-C2960S-24PS-L powers up another devices (two NEC ip phones) without a problem, and there is enough power left on the switch.

I connected the ap on several ports (included those that power ap nec phones) and never turns up.

2960Sw-01#sh power inline

Hi

Do you have CDP enable, can you see the AP through CDP or LLDP?

-If I helped you somehow, please, rate it as useful.-

Yes it is enable. I can see other cisco switches.
The ap is not visible because it never powers up.

The question about CDP is because switch does not provide power on the port unless it identify that on that port there's a power device.

In your case, looks like the switch is not identifying the AP as a power device, thus, does not providing power. CDP is the most common mode for device identify.

Do the following:
1. Command: test cable tdr interface <BLAH>;
2. Wait for approximately 5 to 7 seconds for the process to run;
3. Command: show cable tdr interface <BLAH>; and
4. Post the complete output to #3.

Leo,

Thanks for your help, below the output required:

2960Sw-01#show cable tdr interface gi1/0/23
TDR test last run on: July 09 12:28:04

Interface Speed Local pair Pair length Remote pair Pair status
--------- ----- ---------- ------------------ ----------- --------------------
Gi1/0/23 auto Pair A 148 +/- 0 meters Pair B Normal
Pair B 147 +/- 0 meters Pair A Normal
Pair C 3 +/- 1 meters Pair C Open
Pair D 4 +/- 1 meters Pair D Open

Note: The ap is directly connected to the switch with the Cisco RJ45/M12 cable.

Regards.

Good gosh! Who signed off on this?
Pair A & B are >100 metres.
Pair C, which controls PoE, is not terminated. This is why the AP ain't getting power.
Pair D, which controls GigabitEthernet, is also not terminated.

I will double check with people on site about physical connectivity.
It's supposed that the AP is connected to the switch with rj45/m12 patch cord right now. So the length should be 3 meters.
I let you know any news.
Thanks.
