switching domains on router and switches:

Hello,

I have my own domain name, but never really used it on the local switches and router. If I want to use that domain name instead of localdomain,  is it as simple as just replacing localdomain with the domain name for every occurance of domain name?  Or would I be creating havoc while doing that?

thanks,

Ron

Hello @roncro

Changing the domain name on your switches and routers from "localdomain" to your own domain is generally straightforward and low-risk, but it does require some careful consideration. You would use the ip domain-name yourdomain.com command on each device to replace the old domain name. This will affect the FQDN used by your devices, so if you rely on DNS or certificates for services like SSH or HTTPS, ensure that these systems are updated accordingly to avoid resolution or certificate errors.

It's also a good idea to test the change on a non-critical device first to ensure everything works as expected before applying it to your entire network...

Best regards
