I an have ISP who is providing one of my sites with internet access (MetroEthernet they call it) via Catalyst 3550. We keep having strange problems and fear the 3550 maybe setup incorrectly. What are the best practices for using a 3550 as an Internet router? Or is this a good idea at all?

You can tell the problems you have?
Propably they are using the 3550 to extend de L2 domain to the port connected in your first-hop

I agree with the other note, most carriers are just handing off a layer 2 handoff. Make sure you and the carrier in question talk about the spped and duplex you both are using. Watch both sides, swtich and router for errors, the errors will tell you exactly what the problem is. In many cases we see some 7206 routers with our layer 2 hand off have problems, only resolved when set to auto\auto on both sides..
