I've been the systems administrator here Since May. I'm hoping someone can help me as I often have a lot on my plate and cantg devote the time to learn cisco as much as Id like.
Background: We have 2 ds3 connections (44Mbps) each coming into our router on one DS3 plugin card. the router(7206VXR) is plugged into a 3500 series Switch. We then have 2900XL Catalyst switches that are come off the 3500. Our customers are plugged into a port on one of the catalyst switches. Every customer gets a VLAN and we set the switchport for that VLAN. The network is only layer 2 Im told. All the VLANS are terminated at the router. Therefore we have 340 sub interfaces. We're having to run a compressed config right now.
A new customer of ours complains about poor quality with his Voip server running Asterisk.
The customer is using 2 VLANS
He has a special static route to route thru his other VLAN.
his statis route looks like this
ip route 205.132.34.22 255.255.255.248 205.133.20.2
normally we route all traffic thru vlan
like this.
ip route 205.132.34.22 255.255.255.248 Null0 254
but his current route 205.133.34.22 does not belong to a sub interface. since all of our traffic is VLANed normally, could this be the problem.
Our Sub int looks like this :
interface FastEthernet0/0.301
description Voip Customer vLan
encapsulation dot1Q 301
ip address 205.133.34.8 255.255.255.248
ip broadcast-address 0.0.0.0
no ip redirects
no ip proxy-arp
no cdp enable
end
I did find a bad static route and removed it which could have been the problem. I would appreciate comments on
our setup and if you see any other errors.
We were thinking about priortizing packets sent to a certain port range. Would that have an adverse effect on the network?
Thanks in advance for any and all help..
