VRF LITE with HSRP

Hi expert,

This might be a stupid question.

See below scenario:

Let say i have two access switches connected on 1 router with one vlan, and i want to run some sort of redundancy protocol such as HSRP on the router for that vlan using some sort of vrf configuration. Is that possible?

I know i can install a second router and configure HSRP between the two devices but we are a bit tight on budget, and will take a while to acquire a second device.

So is it possible to run HSRP for one vlan on a single device?

It doesn't have to be vrf, it can be anything. I was just thinking of vrf because it was the only thing that came to mind :)

Not a usual scenario for hsrp, since we usually have two routers providing real redundancy for the scenario

Your scenario is something like this(correct me if i am wrong):

         <ROUTER>

          /                \

        /                    \

 <SW1> ---------- <SW2> 

Your L3 device is the router, probably a VLAN interface, correct ?  Configuring a hsrp in this unique vlan wont help, unfortunately !

I am afraid your only redundancy in this case will be the inter switch link, in case the uplink betwen one of the switches and the router goes down.

I haven't done this myself, but I think it can be done with the use of IRB.

Configure an interface bvi1( ip address ), and on the physical interfaces configure bridge-group1
