We have to replace one of EoL router. That router has VWIC2-2MFT-T1/E1 card and serial link ( E1 and ppp encapsulation ) . We have bought new ISR 4331 router to replace this router. Does the Gigabit ethernet port on this router can be used for WAN connection or what do we need to do to make it work. Any information is much appreciated.

Technically the answer to your question of whether Ethernet can be used for WAN connection is yes it can. But that WAN would be used for Ethernet and what you are replacing is not using Ethernet but is using serial communication protocols. And your GigEthenet can not do that. You will need to obtain and install a network module that supports the serial communication protocols. Here is a link that discusses some of these options. I hope that you find it helpful.
