WCCP and CPU utilization on routers.

I’m currently trying to work out what router we need to do WCCP redirections to some WAN optimizers. We plan that there will 100-200Mbps worth of traffic that needs to be redirected.

We currently have a 7200 with NPE-G2 which already runs at 30% cpu without WCCP redirection. (From shaping and QoS.)

I’m worried that this will not be powerful enough for the redirections.

We would like to upgrade, but I want to do some research beforehand.

I have looked everywhere and I cannot find any WCCP performance figures for the devices below.

Can anyone help?

-7200 with NPE-G2
-ASR1000
-3800
-3750
-6500

I am aware that the catalyst and the ASR can do the redirecting in hardware, so these means there is no real CPU hit until we exhaust  the TCM?

We plan to use in bound redirection and the redirect ACL is only 20 lines.

Thanks in advance!

I don't recall if I've seen documented performance numbers, but with some experience using it, the generated load can vary greatly depending on platform and configuration.  Most imporant is to avoid doing L3 redirection; L2 generally imposes much less load on the platform.  Besides doing inbound, as you've noted, it also helps to redirect just the trafic that really needs redirection.
