What type of routing to be used for internal MPLS connections for internet and intranet

Hi All,

I am writing to understand what type of routing should be ideal for around 50 sites which is expected to be interconnected with each other and the Datacenter through MPLS. The link is expected to be used for intranet, internet and Voice. The link is expected to vary between 5-10 MBPS. Do you think 5/10MBPS link is sufficient. If each sites are located miles apart and every traffic come to central Datacenter for filtering (Firewall), do you think overhead will be more. I mean traffic from 3 things will have to flow twice.

In addition, to this there is an issue with internet browsing. The internet access from all 50 sites are very slow. Intranet is fine and voice is suffering as well.

Can you recommend some test plans and plausible strategy to deal with such diagnosis. Have you experienced such problem in the past?

Any recommendation of distributed firewall vs centralized firewall???

Kindly assist. Urgently needed...

Hi,

First of all, the routing you should use depends a lot on the budget, you should check the cisco 4000 family ISRs, and see if router´s capabilities fit your needs. I think the data transfer rate is too slow for 50 sites, so maybe that is why internet access is very slow.

And again, centralized firewall vs distributed firewall depends to a great extent on the budget, usually centralized firewall has a better performance, but it has a higher cost, besides a centralized firewall must be able to meet the needs of many networks (it implies more configuration), and the redundancy is critical for a centralized firewall.

5-10 Mbps link for each site will be less for internet, intranet and voice?

Can you suggest overhead to be included for all three in the bandwidth sizing?

What all possible checks I should do to get the root cause of internet slowness issue?
