Anyone know the processor specs on WS-C3850-24T-S? Their page says nothing. Their live chat never works. I can't even email them, This page - clicking "email us" bottom left redirects to this page. What a mess of a website

Switch processor specs might be difficult to obtain because it rarely has much to due with the switch's performance, and when it does, there's often an issue you would rather avoid.  This because, data plane is normally handled by ASICs and control plane by the CPU.

Why do you need them and/or what specific CPU specs are you looking to obtain?  Reason I ask, I'm trying to ascertain whether what and why you want to know might be answered otherwise.

I ask because my WS-C3750G-24T-S has one processor and always floating around 90% utilization. I want to avoid that.

Ah, that may, or may not be a problem.

What's consuming the CPU?

Quite a few IOSs in the 3750s, will use a lot of CPU for Hulc LED process, but that normally doesn't impact performance.  What IOS version are you using?

If, though, you have a high software forwarding CPU usage, that needs investigation.

For example, sometimes you can have a 3750 CPU problem caused by using the "wrong" SDM template.

Thanks. How do I check what's consuming the CPU and how do I optimize it, hopefully without needing to pay for service license to upgrade firmware?

Pulling info from Observium:

Cisco 3750G (WS-C3750G-24T-S)
Cisco IOS 12.2(55)SE5 (IPSERVICESK9)

sh proc cpu sorted

If you have maintenance contract, suggest updating to a later version of (55)SE (SE7..10 are very solid).

I don't have a maintenance contract, but I'll look into how much they go for and what the differences/improvements are between 15x and my 12x versions.

I'm pasting only the processes with usage above 0.00%

Unless you have need for 15.x features, recommend you stay with 12.2(55)SE - it's a very solid release, especially the last several patch releases.

10K routes - you might want check you TCAM utilization, see:

I don't believe I can add much more than what's contained in the Cisco links I provided.

From your stats, two of your TCAM resources are pretty full, which makes me wonder whether they do, on occasion, overflow.

Your CPU stats also make me wonder if the switch is doing too much software forwarding.

Back to your original question, I would presume a 3850 has a faster CPU, and perhaps more TCAM  resources, as its newer, so it might "behave" better.
