1. Just wondering if vEdge routers have a startup configuration file just like IOS routers?
2. What happens to the vEdge router if it looses power suddenly and reboots?
3. What configuration will it retain after power cycle? Will it remember the system settings etc.?
4. What will happen if a router that came online through ZTP power cycles? Will it go through the same ZTP process as before, or will it remember the vBond IP of the organization and connect directly to the vBond of the organization?
5. What happens to IOX-XE SDWAN router if it power cycles? Does it retain the full configuration or will it have to get the full configuration from vManage again?
I could not find answers to such questions anywhere in Cisco/Viptela documentation. Any help would be appreciated.
Regards,
Mohan

yes the configuraiton will be save to device, and uses same config all time, until new template pushed.
SD-WAN - Control Plan always vBOND, vSmart, ( vManage is orchestation tool) - so edge device always be in contact with control devices.
to update information from own device to get information from other spokes devices or edge devices.
When the device rebooted it will be register back to control plane, check any new template update required or pending, if not Old known good config will be always there on the end device.
Note : rebooting or power loss of may cause router to corrupt firmware, that time it required fresh installation.

1. Just wondering if vEdge routers have a startup configuration file just like IOS routers?
vEdge - if the template applied they saved locally, until it bricked.
2. What happens to the vEdge router if it looses power suddenly and reboots?
if the device confiuration saved, it will come back and join as expected (unlike any other router) - until again device bricked due to Power Loss, since vEdge Linux based.
3. What configuration will it retain after power cycle? Will it remember the system settings etc.?
What ever confiured will be saved.
4. What will happen if a router that came online through ZTP power cycles? Will it go through the same ZTP process as before, or will it remember the vBond IP of the organization and connect directly to the vBond of the organization?
yes if the new device try to contact PNP/ZTP process, if the known device, it will get provisioned as per the template.
if unknow some one need to claim the device and do the template push.
5. What happens to IOX-XE SDWAN router if it power cycles? Does it retain the full configuration or will it have to get the full configuration from vManage again?
template config will be saved Locally , and register SD-WAN clound as per the reboot proceess
Hope this make sense ?

Hi Balaji,
Thanks for your quick response.
So, after the template is pushed to vEdge, vEdge saves this configuration as startup-configuration? Or simply use this as running-config?
If the router power-cycles, will it have to go through the entire authentication with vBond, vManage and vSmart again? I guess this is the case. So, when authenticating with vManage it will push the full configuration to the router again. Correct me here if I am wrong?
Thanks,
Mohan

Got it Balaji. Thank you. I just confirmed your statements from the lab.
After commit or applying template, the router saves the configuration and uses the same configuration after reboot, but goes through the control-plane authentication with vBond, vManage and vsmart. If any new information for the configuration, it will be downloaded fresh from vManage. Of course, vSmart will push all the routing information to vEdge.
Thats it.
