Transport-side BGP for Viptela vEdge

Dear All,

This is related to a POC setup. vEdge routers will be directly connected to the PE routers (CSR routers in POC setup). It is required to configure BGP for transport side (VPN0), therefore do we need to configure a loopback interface and advertise it rather than using a physical interface for BGP peerings ?

Your comments are highly appreciated.

Hi! From configuration guide https://sdwan-docs.cisco.com/Product_Documentation/vManage_Help/Release_18.3/Configuration/Templates/BGP

For transport-side BGP, you must also configure a physical interface and a loopback interface in VPN 0. In addition, you should create a policy for BGP to advertise the loopback interface address to its neighbors, and apply the policy in the BGP instance or to a specific neighbor. See the Configuring Unicast Overlay Routing article for your software release.

Hi ekhabaro,

I did go through that document, it says we need to configure loopback interface only if WAN vEdge router does not directly connect to WAN cloud. But for our POC setup vEdge router will directly connect to WAN cloud. Iam bit confused here, please clarify

Yes, documentation bit confusing. I don't see any reasons why we can't have session on physical addresses and just did quick check to double confirm this - no issues at all having BGP session in VPN 0 on directly connected addresses.
