Q. What is a Cisco ASA 1000V Firewall?

A.The ASA 1000V is an edge firewall virtual appliance  that runs on VMware vSphere Hypervisor software and the Cisco Nexus  1000V switch exclusively. It allows Virtual Machines (VMs) in a virtual  data center to access the Internet securely (including inter-tenant  communications), functions as the default gateway for the VMs, and  protects against network-based attacks.

 

Q. How can i download the Cisco ASA 1000V Firewall software?

A.The Cisco ASA 1000V Firewall software can be downloaded from the software download url. Only registered users will be able to download the software.

 

Q. What is the latest release of Cisco ASA 1000V Firewall software?

A.The latest version of Cisco ASA 1000V Firewall software is version 8.7.1.

 

Q. Which is the compatible ASDM version for the Cisco ASA 1000V Firewall software version 8.7(1)?

A. ASA 1000V Version 8.7(1) requires ASDM Version 6.7(1).

 

Q. What are the compatible browsers for the Cisco ASA 1000V Firewall?

A. Cisco ASA 1000V Firewall is supported on Internet Explorer 9.0 and later or Mozilla Firefox 10.0 and later with Adobe Flash Player 11.1

 

Q. What are the modes in which the Cisco ASA 1000V Firewall can be configured, managed and monitored?

A. Cisco  ASA 1000V Firewall can be configured, managed and monitored in the following 3 modes:

  • ASDM mode -You can configure, manage, and monitor the ASA 1000V using the Adaptive  Security Device Manager (ASDM), which is the single GUI-based device  manager for the ASA 1000V.

 

  • VNMC mode -You can configure and manage the ASA 1000V using the Cisco Virtual  Network Management Center (VNMC), which is a GUI-based multi-device  manager for multiple tenants.

 

  • XML APIs - You can configure and manage the ASA 1000V using XML APIs, which are  application programmatic interfaces provided through the Cisco VNMC.  This feature is only available in VNMC mode.

Q. Does the Cisco ASA 1000V Firewall support Dynamic Routing?

A. No. Dynamic Routing is not supported by the Cisco ASA 1000V Firewall.

 

Q. Is IPv6 addressing supported on the Cisco ASA 1000V Firewall?

A. No. IPv6 addressing is not supported on the Cisco  ASA 1000V Firewall.

 

Q. Is URL Filtering supported on the Cisco ASA 1000V Firewall?

A. No. URL Filtering is not supported on the Cisco  ASA 1000V Firewall.

 

Q. Is it possible to configure multiple contexts in the Cisco ASA 1000V Firewall?

A. No. Multiple context configuration is not supported on the Cisco  ASA 1000V Firewall.

 

Q. Is it possible to configure QOS on the Cisco ASA 1000V Firewall?

A. No. QOS configuration is not supported on the Cisco  ASA 1000V Firewall.

 

Q. Can we configure threat detection on the Cisco ASA 1000V Firewall?

A. No.We cannot configure threat detection on Cisco ASA 1000V Firewall as the firewall does not support threat detection.

 

Q. Does the Cisco ASA 1000V Firewall support Botnet Traffic Filter?

A. No.Cisco ASA 1000V Firewall does not support Botnet Traffic Filter.

 

Q. Is WCCP supported on the Cisco ASA 1000V Firewall?

A. No.WCCP is not supported on Cisco ASA 1000V Firewall.

Really?  No IPv6, QoS, threat detection, botnet?

 

Good thing it has failover.  Since it doesn't seem to really do much, it can continue to do so after one dies and it has to fail over to another one.

Which also makes sense as it is virtual.

 

No IPv6 really!?  You do realize we are in post October 21st, 2015?  What year do I have to time travel to in order to find Cisco supports IPv6 everywhere?
