What is Cisco ASA?

ASA in Cisco ASA stands for Adaptive Security Appliance.

It is a  security device that combines firewall, antivirus, intrusion prevention, and virtual private network (VPN) capabilities.  It enable the user with  proactive threat defense mechanism for the network

Beyond being a firewall, the Cisco ASA can do the following and more:

  • antivirus
  • antispam
  • IDS/IPS engine
  • VPN device
  • SSL device
  • content inspection

Core issue

This situation can occur if the management interface of the system is used for failover mechanism.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, adhere to these guidelines:

  • The management interface must not be used as a failover interface if there is a failover setup in the network.

  • The management interface can only be used as a regular interface if it is configured with the no management-only command.
