BPDU Guard on Nexus 2K

Dear all,

an already discussed topic with a new approach.

It looks like BPDUGuard can not be eliminated on the NExus 2K,so no swtiches can be connected to these TOR blades. Some workarounds are about removing Spanning Tree features (And thus BPDUs) from the Downlink Switches, with all the risks of possible loops and network disruptions.

Instead, what about creating Layer 3 Peer to Peer links on the Nexus 2K to the Layer 3 Downstream Switches?

By creating two separate Layer 3 Point to point links to the same downlink switch I would achieve redundancy at layer 3 but without using (and then relying on Spanning Tree to avoid loops. I could also disable BPDUs altogether on the DownLink switch without any worries).

Can somebody share their thoughts on this please?

Many thanks,

Francesco

Hi Francesco,

Yes, would not supported with 5500 in L2 mode anyways. To have L3 ports you would need L3 daugther card and licenses on N5K's anyways. There are no plans to support L3 P-2-P ports on N2K's with Nexus5K as the parent switch.

What is the Parent switch you have? Not supported with N5K/6K yet but supported with N7K with 6.2.6 except 2248PQ.

Hi,

thank you for your reply. Parent Switch is 7K.

You mean it wouldnt be supported on 5K (Layer II) Devices, right? Since we are talking about a Layer 3 Point to point link which would exclude reliance on Spannin Tree and leave redundancy on top of the routing protocol.

many thanks,

Francesco
