IBM SNA Multsess disconnects, IPX clients

IPX clients using TokenRing seem to be losing

their sessions with the IBM mainframe almost

randomly. Users report from various LANs and

buildings in the enterprise that sessions with

the mainframe for e-mail and other functions

abruptly halt. At the workstation, customers see

a blue screen, the IBM Welcome screen, or a

Multsess screen, inviting them to login again.

Recently all core routers were upgraded from

11.2(17) to 12.1(9) enterprise. Some customers

do not get transport through the core routers that

were upgraded. I don't know how to start trouble-

shooting IPX routes, IPX connectivity, or IPX

functions. About 6 SAA gateways are being used.

Customers using IP rather than IPX are not

reporting the problem. Any troubleshooting drill

or hints you could give me?

Novell IPX would not be used to access SNA applications running on an IBM host. You would use SNA 3270 emulation or TN3270 client on the end station for that. If you suspect a problem with end users losing SNA 3270 sessions I strongly recommend opening a case with the TAC IBM Support group. If you suspect problems with IPX clients accessing applications running on IPX servers then I suggest opening a case with the TAC desktop support group.
