Nexus 5548 5596 to replace Cat 3750 and 4507R??

Has anyone here had any experience interoperating Nexus 5548 or 5596 with Catalyst 3750 or 4507R?

Any gotchas or issues, big or small?

We're looking into Nexus to replace these switches in the long run.

Thanks!

The Nexus switching family running NX-OS is fully compatible with IOS. In fact the configuration operation and troubleshooting is very similar.

You can take a look at the configuration guides on www.cisco.com/go/nexus5000

They may be interoperable, but IOS is much more stable and consistent than NX-OS. I have been testing with a couple of Nexus 5020s in my lab, running 5.0.3 NX-OS and it is inconsistent. For example, after erasing the startup configuration and rebooting on several occasions, sometimes the default QoS configs would appear and sometimes some statements would be missing.

There are other quirks, too. Cisco needs to focus on the NX-OS and clean it up.

The qos configuration has changed so the settings you see in 5.0.3 have disabled fcoe to be enabled by default, to allow more buffer for ethernet.

NX-OS is linux based and is build for stability: processes can be restarted without a restart of the switch, and its a hardware cut-trough switch, switching is done in hardware at high performance, the cpu control plane is separated.

Hi, Lucien:

The qos configuration has changed so the settings you see in 5.0.3 have  disabled fcoe to be enabled by default, to allow more buffer for  ethernet.

What??

Take a look at the release notes and config guides on cco for 5.0.2 and 5.0.3
