Using SNMP to read flow control counters from Nexus 55xx

Hi,

We have Nexus 5548P switches in our datacenter. We're observing incrementing RXpause counters on several 10GE interfaces (that have flow control enabled), connected to VMware ESX hosts. We'd like to monitor the flow control counters via SNMP.

I've found that the MIB that has these counters is the EtherLike-MIB and the object of interest is dot3PauseEntry that consists of

dot3InPauseFrames dot3OutPauseFrames and some more counters.

But, querying our Nexus switches for the OID, we get "No Such Object available on this agent at this OID".
According to

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus5000/sw/mib/reference/NX5000_MIBRef.html#wp78007

the mib is supported on the Nexus 5548, but apparently not the child object of interest.

The same SNMP query does seem to work on our 6509 VSS switch tho. Other SNMP queries work OK on the Nexus switches.

Nexus switches running version 5.2.(1)N1(3). Older versions tried without succes.

Haven't been able to try 6.0.x versions yet, but if this would be the solution we're willing to upgrade.

How can we read the Flow Control counters of a Nexus 55xx switch ?

tia, Eddy

Hi Eddy

I just checked in a lab switch running latest 6.0(2)N1(1) and noticed that dot3PauseTable is still not supported. There is an enhancement CSCue81346 tracking it

Thanks

hi Prashanth,

thanks for verifying this on 6.0(2)N1(1). Let's hope this enhancement will be implemented in the near future.

regards, Eddy
